Ahhhhh... in my last year of studies.

It's incredible how 4 years passes by so quickly. Now I'm running about in clinic, doing some crazy dentistry that requires multidisciplinary knowledge and skills. Today I made a mistake that costed me 5 hours of work that I had already done. Instead of freaking out, I decided to "alter my perception" of the event and take it as a learning experience.

Talking about "altering my perceptions", we have this examination on the psychology of dentistry tomorrow. Topics include: Why dentists are so stressed, managing patients with phobias and fears, listening and communication skills, and how to basically deal with the unexpected crud that occurs in this profession. I wish I knew all this would happen when I got into dental school, but I figure that if any of us found out how stressful and unrosey this profession is, half of the class would have probably dropped out. Not to say that I don't enjoy what I do, but dentistry brings on so much more that can really consume a person and drive them towards depression, drugs and alcohol (kinda like anything in life does).

Managing stress, now that's quite a conversation starter. Reading all these articles about irritable bowel syndrome, I'm not surprised that I endured that during my 2nd and 3rd year of dental school. Praise God that I'm okay, but I believe that I need to understand how to unload the burdens when I get home. Easy to say "just give them to the Lord", cuz it's quite a challenge when you're dealing with the wellbeing of others instead of an assignment or an examination. A few things have helped me so far: living close to school and having the place to myself right now allows me to come home, throw my bag down, turn some Garden State soundtrack on, eat some quick Soba noodles, and walk around in bum clothes without having offended anyone. Though even if Mark were here I'd do the same thing anyways. Hahaha.

In two weeks I will be going to Moose Factory! If you look at Mapquest, it's pretty much at the tip of Hudson's Bay. I've never been so far up. My desire for these last 3 years has been to be able to go and work with the Aboriginals and see if it's in store for my future. A few things I look forward to when I get up there:
1) See the Northern Lights
2) Go moose/deer hunting with Jesh
3) Watch countless episodes of Smallville, anime and movies with Jesh
4) Take lots of pictures of sunsets, flora and moose
5) Get some requirements accomplished while up there
6) Ride in a helicopter???
7) Spend some time in solitude... as no one is up there
8) Understand the health issues faced by that population group

It's quite an exciting year. An update on next year: I'm applying to the University of Buffalo for a postgraduate residency position. This is called "Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD)". The program is awesome, it has a optional "missionary" dentistry oppourtunity, which means I can go work in one of their affliate hospitals around the world and get credit and salary while I am there! What a way to learn! I pray the Lord will provide the way and means to do this.

Les Miserables on October 29th! Can't wait!!!

Had a chance to shoot some of my sister's engagement photos with Ray. It was a beautiful chilly day in October. Shots were taken with Pentax *ist DS, ISO 400, A 70-210 f4.

Congratulations Sandra and Ian! They were married under a "tree" that was made by Ian's relative out of styrofoam and real branches. Kinda looked like a tree was growing in the middle of the sanctuary.
