Buffalo. I was told on Monday that I got into Buffalo's AEGD program. Since a lot of people don't know much about what a dental residency is, I'll explain it here. People are surprised that after only 4 years of dental school, we are liscenced to go and practice without any other compulsary training, unlike our medical collegues who must attend a minimum two year residency depending on whatever speciality they choose to be in.

There are programs offered across canada and the states to us graduating dentists to join a residency. Those who wish to go into the following specialties must attend >2 years:
Pediatric dentistry (children)
Prosthodontics (crowns, bridges, etc)
Endodontics (root canals)
Oromaxillofacial Surgery
Orthodontics
Oral Pathology

There is also an option for a general practioner residency. It is either a General Practictioner Residency (GPR) or Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD). The difference between the two is GPR is mostly hospital, surgery, emergency based, while AEGD is mostly clinical based. Buffalo's AEGD program is 1 year long, situated right in the dental school. Though I will be fully liscenced as a dentist by then, I still work under the school and under the supervision of some specialists. My job description includes full-time clinic work with some rotations in surgery and pediatric dentistry, as well as teaching (YAY!), courses, classes and mission work!

It's awesome, I've never felt like a program fit me so well. The Lord really knew what the desires of my heart were. The program is laid back, the people there are SO nice, the missionary work option is incredible (one of my main reasons for applying there), and it's so close to home so I can visit any weekend.

It's a luxury to know so well in advance what is happening the following year. I hope not to get too comfortable as anything can change and life is always morphing. I am pretty free these days, I'm almost finished my requirements in clinic, and in March I will have a whole month of examinations, and hopefully THE LAST ONES I WILL HAVE TO WRITE unless I choose to take upon another career or something.

7 years in London has taught me a lot. It has shown me independence, how to embrace a ministry of people and be fully dedicated even though I am to leave eventually, how to mature, how to love, what it means to be free, how to read the word, and what it means to be a disciple of Christ. It is sad to leave this place as these last few months are whizzing by. Saying goodbye to loved ones, to mentors, to professors, to each other... but it has also taught me what it means to move on and entrust people unto the Lord.

I love you London. Thanks for taking care of me all these years.

We had the honour in seeing Dorothy's piano recital last night. Her duet partner was wearing the same hairtie... they looked like twins!

Gotta love this shot... take a look at Kendrick (the guy in the middle)... he went flying 10 feet forward after the shot. We had to catch him.
